AI Skills vs. Human Skills

The AI agent is humming along. It sorts the inbox, drafts the memo, plans the week. You just saved three hours.

What are you going to do with those hours?

For most of us, the honest answer is more. More prompts, more projects, more tokens. Or, even worse, those hours get wasted with mindless scrolling. The saved time gets spent before we notice we had it, and the meter keeps running.

We've done this before. Email was supposed to save us from memos. Task apps were supposed to clear our heads. Every tool that promised us time gave us room to cram in more, because nobody taught us what to do with the space.

Used with judgment, AI can sharpen your thinking. A clear prompt requires knowing what you want and what done looks like. Your day works the same way. If you don't know what enough looks like, no tool will tell you when to stop.

The fundamentals are unglamorous. Know what to work on. Say no. Finish things. Keep a short list. And the hardest one: leave some white space, and let it stay empty.

Discernment is a human skill and it runs on zero tokens.
